Four Twenty Seven was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. The name Four Twenty Seven is a reference to California’s 2020 emissions target, 427 million tonnes of carbon.
Emilie Mazzacurati has ten years of experience working on climate policy, carbon markets and sustainability.
Emilie has published extensively on California climate policy and carbon markets, federal climate legislation, and the interaction of carbon with other commodity markets. She was Head of Carbon Analysis at Thomson Reuters Point Carbon for five years, where she directed Point Carbon’s research department in the U.S. Emilie conceived and launched Point Carbon’s successful North American carbon market research series, for which she was the editor and a lead author.
Emilie is a visiting lecturer at UC Davis’s Graduate School of Management, where she teaches a course on Climate Risks and Opportunities for businesses. Previously, she taught a course on carbon markets at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. She is a frequent speaker at industry events, and has trained hundreds of professionals on carbon trading and climate risks in private workshops over the years.
Emilie is originally from France, and before coming to the U.S., she was a policy advisor to the deputy mayor of Paris on environmental policy. She helped develop Paris’s community garden program, initiated a stakeholder consultation on environmental education, and led the city’s sustainability reporting efforts. Earlier, she was a staffer in the European Parliament where she worked on development policy and public health.
Emilie holds a Master of Political Science from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and a Master of Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Emilei is a certified GRI Sustainability Reporter.
